An explosion occurred on the Tarkwa-Bogoso-Ayamfuri road (Ghana) on 20Th January 2022 after a Maxam company’s truck transporting 10 tons of mining explosives collided head-on with a motorcycle. The motorcycle was driven over by the truck. The collision occurred at 1:25 pm with the explosion coming about 45 minutes later. They had not reached the scene before the vehicle exploded.
The truck was escorted by a security car in front and a police vehicle behind it. Many people were nearby taking photographs and videos of the accident when the truck exploded. The blast created a 20-metre-wide crater in the road.
The explosion affected the nearby village. The blast destroyed several buildings as well. At least 13 people were killed and 200 injured.
Our concern is which insurance policy will indemnify for losses – lives and property? Maxam’s Public Liability policy will respond to the losses of Lives and Property, subject to policy limitations.
