Alfred Hitchcock Presents – Don’t Come Back Alive
Mark Twain once said, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated,” when a newspaper mistakenly published his obituary. When the economy is down and unemployment on the rise, insurance fraud has often been resorted to.
In “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” Season 1, Episode 4 “Don’t come back alive” which was telecasted in 1955, a middle-aged couple with money troubles decide to fraudulently claim under the wife’s life insurance policy by having her disappear, then waiting for 7 years to collect the insurance money of $25,000
The insurance company then hires a private investigator to investigate the husband on suspicion for foul play, but he finds nothing.
Unfortunately, just before the end of seven years right before the insurance payout, the wife returns, confessing to have found new love and offering a substantially lower sum for a divorce. Enraged, the husband kills the wife, and buries her in the front garden.
The next day, the investigator comes along to announce he is ending his investigation and to congratulate the husband. To show bygones are bygones, the investigator proceeds to help the horrified husband with planting his roses in the very same front garden!
