On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to ever set foot on the moon.
But before they could even begin their trip to the moon, the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins had one little problem to solve.
They had no Life Insurance!
The trip to the moon being the first event of its kind, Insurers were unwilling to take on this risk! The mission was more dangerous than anything else humans had ever attempted in space. But for the astronauts, their families’ financial security did matter.
Neil Armstrong and his crew came up with an innovative plan to ensure their family’s future. Before lift-off, the astronauts were quarantined for a month – NASA’s procedures. There they signed hundreds of autographs and postmarking important mission dates. Space images marked with their personal signatures that would act like ‘covers’. The idea was that these covers would become precious if they could not return.

These covers are now referred to as ‘Apollo Insurance Covers.’
