The third intense weather in 45 days led to yet another round of rain and flooding in Australia. Sydney received over a month’s rain overnight on April 7, 2022. Thousands of people were evacuated. These rains are due to La Nina weather phenomenon resulting in increased rainfall. La Nina in Spanish means Little Girl. La Nina is also sometimes called El Viejo or simply “a cold event.” La Nina has the opposite effect of El Nino.
STANDARD FIRE AND SPECIAL PERILS POLICY covers “Loss, destruction or damage directly caused by Storm, Cyclone, Typhoon, Tempest, Hurricane, Tornado, Flood or Inundation excluding those resulting from earthquake, Volcanic eruption or other convulsions of nature”. Any insured feels safe in the event of loss as that of April 7, 2022.
The statement “…excluding those resulting from earthquake, Volcanic eruption or other convulsions of nature” is of significance. “Other convulsions of nature” means a sudden, violent, irregular movement of nature. Thus, the STANDARD FIRE AND SPECIAL PERILS POLICY excludes any loss or damage due to “other convulsions of nature”.
