On 21st May, 1991 Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by the LTTE terrorists while campaigning for the Congress party at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. At 40, Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest prime minister of India. He took over as the sixth prime minister of India.
The Anti-Terrorism Day is observed to spread the message of peace and humanity. The United Nations observes International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism on 21st August. This day is a great opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers and security men who fought against terrorism to protect the people of India.
The insurance industry observes the Anti-Terrorism Day by covering the risks for terrorism. Allow us to take the example of Motor Insurance: It reads: “The Insurance Company will indemnify the insured against loss or damage to the vehicle insured hereunder and/or its accessories whilst thereon by terrorist activity”.
The insurers have faith in non-violence and tolerance; they affirm to oppose all forms of terrorism and violence. They uphold and promote peace, social harmony, and understanding among fellow human beings and fight the forces of disruption threatening human lives, values and property.
